I always thought about ideas which are thrown to me and wondered if I will be able to critically analyze everything, every time. We live in a world where we have our own experiences and these experiences become chains for free thinking. We think everything in the reverse direction and hence lead to the wrong conclusion. In fact, I am arguing that first we assume conclusion and then we make arguments for it.
Assume you want to launch a retail chain in India and make it profitable. What is your first reaction to it? Is it possible to launch such retail chain? Is this idea viable? is it operationally feasible? All such questions will come to our mind and we may reach to a conclusion that such a solution is not possible. Wait a minute... how are you thinking...
Operational efficiency ----> Strategy to compete ----> Create value for customers
Its a totally reverse way of thinking. We are not thinking to create something useful to customers but we want to create something taking into consideration our own shortcomings and capabilities... is it not funny that we are creating something with constraints and then expecting to be well taken by customers. Think Over it Again... Is it the way Sam Walton thought about it.. No Not at All... His thinking was as following:
Low prices everyday ----> Strategy to achieve this goal ----> Create operational capability to achieve the goals
That's why today Walmart is so successful. Analysis of turn over ratio and other things came later on once business became successful... we need to think what customers want and then prepare strategy and finally create innovative solutions to gain operation capabilities.
Another great example of this fallacy is reaction of Steve Ballmer on iPhone...
He was thinking what customers are not able to do... Ballmer, a legend on his own fell for reverse thinking... He was thinking what is not possible and what customers can't do... He couldn't realize that customers want something more productive ... be it touch phone... keyboard or whatever... Ballmer corrected his mistakes by launching windows 7 mobile later on...
So, Think in Right direction... don't get trapped in game of neurons... Reverse the reverse thinking to get it right
